The thyroid gland is a butterfly shaped organ located in the base of your neck. It releases hormones that control metabolism - the way your body uses energy.
Thyroid nodules are solid, fluid filled, or mixed lumps that form within your thyroid. Most thyroid nodules are not serious and do not cause symptoms. Only a small percentage of thyroid nodules are cancerous. The more concerning is a solitary thyroid nodule. Usually multiple nodules suggest a benign disease, however if there is a dominant nodule, that may require biopsy.
