Patient Information for Thyroid Biopsy

Patient Instructions for Thyroid Biopsy

PRE-PROCEDURE

It is generally recommended you discontinue the use of aspirin 5 days before the procedure and discontinue anti-inflammatory medications (like ibuprofen, naproxen) 3 days before the procedure.  Your physician will go over your medications with you and provide you with specific recommendations for your situation.  Before the procedure, tell the doctor if you have any drug allergies, bleeding problems, or are pregnant.

POST-PROCEDURE

You will stay in our office for 10-15 minutes for observation after the procedure.  You can expect some soreness or a little pain for approximately 1-3 days in the biopsy area, or sometimes discomfort is felt in the jaw or ear.
